Ebata is a long-established, old-school yakiniku and horumon restaurant in Kyoto’s Nishijin district, housed in a building renovated from a former entertainment-district structure, giving it a distinctive retro, alleyway charm. It gained wider fame after being featured in the gourmet manga Oishinbo. The restaurant is especially known for tecchan (grilled beef intestine, seared only on one side for a texture described as melting on the tongue), salted tongue with a crisp exterior, and cheek meat with a house-made sauce, alongside raw preparations such as tongue and heart sashimi. The chef personally grills at the counter for guests. Ebata is cash-only and does not accept reservations. It has been selected for the Tabelog Yakiniku Hyakumeiten (WEST) continuously from 2019 through 2025.
