Toriki, tucked into a quiet residential corner of Kinshicho, made history in 2010 as the first yakitori restaurant in the world to earn a Michelin star. Fresh akadori chicken is grilled at extremely high heat over binchotan charcoal exceeding a thousand degrees, with the chef fanning the coals by hand to finish each skewer with precision. Diners settle in for an unhurried two-and-a-half-hour course that unfolds like a chicken kaiseki, pairing skewers with seasonal dishes and fine sake. Reservations are essential, and an English menu is available for overseas visitors.
